WHAT IS THIS?

The Mac OS X Snow Leopard Developer Previews for PowerPC (“SL-PPC”), released between June 2008 and early 2009, were found in March 2020 to install successfully on PowerPC Macs (namely, later G4s and G5s), even though Apple clarified soon after the first Developer Preview (Build 10A96, Darwin 10.0.0d1) that PowerPC Macs would not be supported once Snow Leopard was released for retail sale.

That first developer build, Build 10A96, is generally the most PowerPC-friendly, out-of-the-box, of the known Snow Leopard developer builds.

Compatibility:

ARCHITECTURES

  • G4 7450 series (G4) (some MR members have tested successfully on 7400s)
  • G5 (PowerPC 970)
  • Intel 32-/64-bit

FOR 10A96:
To get Build 10A96 up and running, read through the MR WikiPost thoroughly to obtain the community-provided installation script (“10.6PPC.zip”) and correct “BootX” file. Also, refer to the MR WikiPost’s “Fixes & Tips” section for ways to improve overall functionality (and on how to convert the Server build to a Client build).
